A few weeks ago, our San Diego friends called and asked if we would want to join them on a House Boating Adventure on Lake Shasta. We have driven past Lake Shasta and stayed in the town of Shasta several times throughout the years. It is an amazingly beautiful place. Of course we wanted to join them!

Shasta is about 3 hours away from our house. We drove up to the boat ramp and checked in with the rental company. It was very similar to the process for renting a car, except you are on the water and you live in the boat for the time you rent it. I highly recommend Antler's Resort and Marina. We rented the Mirage boat. It says it sleeps 16 people, but honestly, the 7 of us were very comfortable. It had a fireplace in the living room, plenty of kitchen space. A microwave, two refrigerators and a full oven. The boat also has, had 3 state rooms and two penthouse rooms. Then there is a little cubby under the food pantry that a small child could easily crawl into and have a wonderful Harry Potter hole. Our boat had an 8 person hot tub on the roof and water slide off the back!

We spent 5 days cruising on the lake and exploring various outlets and coves. The water levels are extremely low at this time for year so the slopes up the side are extra steep and rocky. Finding flat land was a bit of a challenge at times but we managed to find spots to tie off the boat each night. By sundown, you need to make sure you are docked on the side of the lake. The rental company provides you with a sledge hammer and two large metal stakes.

On Saturday, we rented jet skis and zipped around the lake. I personally learned that I do not like jet skiing and did not do well with the whole staying on it part! But everyone had a great time and the weather was perfect! Ryan brought his Go-Pro and we had some fun making videos from the water slide and jumping into the lake. Check out his video montage here! (coming soon...)

California has been suffering from horrible wildfires this season and luckily we got a great break in the smoke for our House Boating weekend. There was a slight overcast and smell at times, but overall, we had a fantastic weekend. It was a wonderful way to end Birthmonth 2020!

And here is a video walk through of our entire boat. Note: this is while we were packing up to go home.
